Girls Day

For the last couple of years the women in my fiance's family go wine touring in Niagara in June. This was my second year going, and I was so thankful we had nice weather for our trip.

We usually have a potluck picnic lunch and I decided this year to make lemon poppy seed sugar cookies shaped in lemon and lime wedges.

Everyone really seemed to love the cookies. Although I think next time I'll add more lemon as it dissipated quite a bit in the oven.

After all our fun at the wineries, we returned home for a BBQ with the menfolk. Hamburgers, hotdogs and tons of good food.

I kept half the cookies at home for the BBQ since I didn't want the guys to miss out and I also made chocolate peanut butter cupcakes, topped with chocolate peanut butter ganache. ( say that five times fast )

Chocolate and peanut butter has to be one of my favourite combinations.

With the temperature being over 30 here I'm going to be switching to some no-bake desserts for a bit to beat the summer heat.

Long Overdue, Playoff Cupcakes

Alright finally finished taking all the pictures off my camera so I can make another post.

This one is long overdue. I made these cupcakes with my sister for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, in hopes that maybe Vancouver would win. Sadly this was not the case, but I don't blame the cupcakes, and they tasted good all the same.

They were made with plain old out of the box rainbow bit mix ( my sister's favourite ) and vanilla icing.
The hockey sticks I made by piping blue and green melted chocolate. They were a little delicate to transfer and I broke many of them in the process ( good thing you can always remelt them).

First post

This is the first time I've ever had a blog, so you'll have to bear with me as I get the hang of it.

I won't be updating as often as some other food bloggers, simply because baking and decorating is only a hobby for me right now. I want you to understand that I have not had any formal training or classes on how to bake or decorate. The baking I learned from my dad and the decorating I've been learning as I go with the help of YouTube and my fellow food bloggers.

I certainly hope to update at least once a month. Mostly my practice has been commissions from my friends of cakes for their birthday's.

If you have any comments, suggestions or questions please don't hesitate to ask me.
